A suburban high school is grappling with a bombardment of vulgar and hurtful text messages Friday sent to local students from an anonymous app, officials said.

Lake Park High School in Roselle is investigating after a several families began receiving the messages, the school said in a statement. Police are also involved in the investigation.

“Lake Park takes any matter of concern voiced by parents and students very seriously,” the school said. “The safety of our students is our highest priority, and we greatly appreciate the involvement and thoroughness of local law enforcement.”

Students and parents are encouraged to contact West Campus School Resource Officer Schwytzer or East Campus School Resource Officer Forrest should they receive any anonymous text messages or have information that could be helpful in this case, the school said.

Families can also report this information to local law enforcement or contact the District’s Anonymous Tip Hotline at (630) 529-3001.
