Iconic professional wrestler Bruno Sammartino passed away on Wednesday morning at the age of 82 in Pittsburgh. The 5-foot-10, 265-pound Sammartino, born in Italy on October 6, 1935, held the WWE Championship belt for more than 11 years in the 1960s and 1970s. Arnold Schwarzenegger inducted “The Italian Superman” into the WWE Hall of Fame in April 2013.

“Being inducted into the Hall of Fame at Madison Square Garden is the biggest thing in my life,” Sammartino, the first two-time WWE titlist, told ESPN. “Anytime that people feel that you accomplished enough to enter into a Hall of Fame, of course this is a tremendous, tremendous thrill for me. I had a lot of my success due to appearing at the Garden.”

Sammartino is survived by his wife and three sons. Funeral arrangements for “The Italian Superman” have not been announced.
