At Least 12 People Wounded in Shootings Across Chicago

At least 12 people have been wounded in shootings across the city of Chicago this weekend.

The city’s most recent shooting occurred in the 200 block of South Laverne at approximately 5:17 p.m., police said. The victims were walking near the location when someone in a dark sedan pulled up and fired shots. 

A 23-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman were both taken to Mount Sinai in stable condition. No suspects are in custody. 

A man is in critical condition after he was shot in the 3200 block of North Kedzie on Friday night, according to police.

The man, who has not been identified, was driving when a person in a passing Toyota sedan fired shots at him, striking him in the head. The man then crashed, and he was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition.

The gunman’s vehicle was seen entering the Kennedy Expressway heading eastbound, according to police. No other information on the suspect was available.

Just after midnight Saturday morning, another man was taken to an area hospital in critical condition after he was shot in the 4100 block of West Adams, police said.

The man was walking on a sidewalk when he heard shots. He was taken to Stroger Hospital with gunshot wounds to his neck and body, police said. No one is in custody, and an investigation is underway.

Just after 11 a.m. Saturday, two men were shot in the 200 block of North Lockwood, police said. The men were standing on a sidewalk when a person opened fire, striking both victims. 

A 27-year-old man was shot in the left foot and is in stable condition at West Suburban Hospital, police said. A 23-year-old man was shot in both legs and was taken to Stroger in stable condition. 

No one is in custody, police said. 

Here are the rest of this weekend’s shootings: 

Saturday: 

  • In the 7500 block of South Green at approximately 12:30 a.m., a 25-year-old man was getting into a car when he was shot in the hip and backside, police said. He is in stable condition at University of Chicago Hospital, but refused to give more information to authorities.
  • A 25-year-old man was walking in the 10500 block of South King Drive just before 4 a.m. when a person in a passing blue sedan fired shots at him, striking him in the leg. The man was taken to Roseland Hospital, where his condition stabilized according to authorities.
  • At approximately 6:15 a.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in the back in the 5100 block of South Kedzie, police said. The man is in stable condition at Stroger Hospital. 
  • Just before 8 a.m. in the 1100 block of North Central Park, a 29-year-old man was shot in the stomach during an altercation with an acquaintance in his residence. The gunman fled the scene and is at large, and the man was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said. 
  • A 22-year-old man was shot in the right leg, according to police. The man was taken to Presence St. Mary’s, but other circumstances of the shooting are unknown. 
  • A 22-year-old man was sitting in a vehicle in the 1600 block of South Indiana at 5 p.m. when he was shot multiple times in the back. Police say the man is at Christ Hospital, but his condition is unknown.
