Mother’s Day weekend is all about flowers and warm temperatures, but unfortunately for Chicago-area residents, dreary weather and the threat of rain are conspiring to ruin the party.

Rainy weather is expected to remain in place over the Chicago-area through much of the day Saturday before finally drying out in the overnight hours. Some areas in the far south suburbs could still see an occasional shower overnight, but most areas will be try as temperatures struggle to remain above 50 degrees in most locations.

As Mother’s Day dawns, clouds will remain overhead, and temperatures will be far below normal for this time of year, as highs are expected to settle into the low-to-mid 50s across much of the region.

Despite starting out on a dry note, the weather will turn south as the afternoon wears on, with showers in the forecast in the evening.

Fortunately for moms, the day after Mother’s Day will mark a return to more normal temperatures, and the sun will even re-emerge after a weekend off. The high temperature Monday is expected to land around 60 degrees, and Tuesday will be much more seasonal, with a forecasted high of 70 degrees for the city.
