It could be another summer of discontent for drivers who depend on the Eisenhower Expressway, as more construction will cause lane closures on the roadway.

Beginning this weekend, the Illinois Department of Transportation says that it will close one lane of the inbound Eisenhower as part of the ongoing reconstruction of the Jane Byrne Interchange, according to a press release.

One lane of the inbound Ike will be closed from Ogden Avenue to Halsted Street, and traffic will be shifted to the south. The left and center lanes of the roadway can be used to access inbound Ida B. Wells Drive, and the ramp to the Kennedy Expressway will be accessible from the center lane. The right lane will have access to the outbound Dan Ryan Expressway, according to the release.

Overnight ramp and lane closures will take place over the weekend to reconfigure the work zone, according to the department.

The lane closures will remain in effect through the end of the year to complete construction of new inbound lanes between Racine and Halsted.

Motorists can expect delays, according to the department, and are urged to pay close attention to flaggers, signs, and construction barriers to help keep workers safe.
