Chicago Celebrates Fourth of July

Celebrations are well underway around Chicago Tuesday as people in the city and suburbs commemorate Independence Day.

Thousands flocked to Navy Pier to catch the fireworks show beginning at 9:30 p.m. The annual celebration is one of the Chicago area’s most well-attended Fourth of July attractions.

Navy Pier closed its doors shortly after 8:30 p.m. after reaching its capacity of roughly 100,000 people, a spokesman for the popular tourist destination confirmed.

The annual fireworks display on the Fourth of July is Navy Pier’s biggest night of the year.

Navy Pier’s on-site parking garages filled up Tuesday around 3:15 p.m., according to a statement from the venue.

Visitors can park at garages located at 540 N. State St., 300 E. North Water St. or S. Columbus St. at a discounted rate of $15 with validation from Navy Pier’s information booth, the statement said.
