2018 Volkswagen Passat GT – Some Excitement To Go With Your Sedan

The Passat is not exactly a car that gets enthusiasts excited, but it is a nice looking and competent mid-sized sedan. For 2018, VW is adding some sugar and spice in the form of a 3.6-liter, 280HP VR6 engine. It’s not just the powerplant – a GTI-style front fascia, sport seats and 19” wheels round out the performance version. Using a dual-clutch gearbox, this should be a fun-to-drive answer to your daily commute.

With more and more high-horsepower cars coming out these days, these mid-size, mid-price options are few and far between. You either end up with a boring sedan, or you have to spend triple the money. While final pricing hasn’t been released yet, expect the GT package to only bump the price of a loaded Passat marginally.

There are two notable omissions here, neither all-wheel-drive or a manual transmission are available – but the lighter front-wheel drive layout means more of the power will reach the ground. A manual transmission would be nice, but with flappy-paddle technology advancing by the day, we still think it will be fun to drive. If the initial images are any indication, it will be fun to look at as well.

As car enthusiasts, we’re happy whenever a company releases a true sport-version of one of its vehicles, so we can’t wait for some time behind the wheel of this new Passat!
