Original Uncle Dougie’s, a line of sauces, rubs and mixes, has named Rob Johnson as its CEO.

Johnson, 34, was previously a brand director at ConAgra Foods, where he oversaw a portfolio of natural and organic brands, including Alexia Foods, Frontera Foods, Blake’s All Natural Foods and Wicked Kitchen.

Uncle Dougie’s is majority-owned by Schafer Condon Carter, one of Chicago’s largest independent advertising firm. The agency, which takes stakes in consumer brands in exchange for providing branding and marketing strategy, bought an interest in the brand in 2012 from Doug Tomek, who founded Uncle Dougie’s in Palantine in 1989.

Schafer Condon releaunched the 15-product line in 2013, focusing on edgier marketing. Tim Condon, the agency’s founding partner, has served as CEO of Uncle Dougie’s since the deal was finalized.

“We’ve gotten to the point where it made sense to bring in someone who understands retail distribution, and Rob is perfectly suited to that role,” Condon says. Sales have increased five-fold since 2013, he says, but it remains a small-batch product that’s dwarfed by the Kraft Heinzes of the world.

“We’re looking at really pushing the business and seeing how big it can get,”
