Right now there are hundreds of people missing in Illinois–but a new support group is looking to help their families.

For Susan Olsen, whose son has been missing for 12 years, there will never be any closure.

On Jan. 20, 2007, her son Bradley–then 26–went to a DeKalb bar and never returned home.

“It does not get any easier,” she said.

Days, weeks, months and years have gone by–but Olsen refuses to give up searching for Bradley.

“His case is still very active,” she said. “(We) continue to search for him on a regular basis.”

“We will be searching until we find something,” she said. “And be able to give him a proper place.”

This weekend, in Bolingbrook, Olsen will share her story and expertise with other families of missing persons at a forum put on by the Community Cold Case Squad.

“Although social media makes it easier for people to connect online, it just isn’t the same as getting together in person,” a poster for the upcoming even reads. “We hope you find comfort here and help with any obstacle you are facing in your loved one’s case.”

Ann Bielby is the coordinator.

Bielby says the gathering is for families to gain information and also learn from others.

“They’ll go away with renewed senses of purpose of finding their loved one and knowing that they are not alone,” she said.

Olsen says echoed that sentiment.

“Get out there and try to attend every search, talk to people who have been there, work with your police department best you can,” she said.

There group says there are no dues, fundraising or product service endorsements involved.

The meeting will be held Sunday at the Bolingbrook Community Center.

The group can be contacted by email at ccscommunitycoldcasesquadcomcast.net.
