A car crash has claimed the life of a suburban driver after the vehicle they were driving crashed into the back of a stopped semi-trailer on Interstate 80 Saturday morning.

According to Illinois State Police, a semi-truck was driving in the left lane of Interstate 80 near Ridge Road just before 8:30 a.m. when it stopped due to a previous accident.

Police say that while that semi was stopped, another vehicle, a 2017 Nissan Rogue, failed to stop and crashed into the rear of the trailer.

The driver of that car, who has not been identified pending notification of family, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Will County Coroner.

The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.
