On the one-year anniversary of his tragic death, Chicago Police Cmdr. Paul Bauer will be remembered in the city he died protecting.
A memorial service is set to take place Wednesday at the Thompson Center, where Bauer’s final act of courage brought heartbreak and shock as the 31-year police veteran was shot and killed while chasing a suspect down a staircase.
The loss remains fresh a year later.
Bauer, who once led the 18th District on the city’s Near North Side, was a beloved husband and father.
Members of the Chicago Police Mounted Unit and Chicago Police bagpipers will join in the service led by chaplains for the department.
The memorial is set to begin at noon at the Thompson Center.
