It may be “Meteorological Spring” in the Chicago-area, but it’s not going to feel like it, as unseasonably cool weather will give way to a brutal cold snap to start the new work week.

On Saturday, temperatures will hover around the freezing mark in the Chicago area, with mostly cloudy skies and occasional flurries floating in the air.

In the overnight hours and into Sunday, the temperature will plunge into the teens, with wind chills approaching zero. Sunday will also be mostly cloudy, but the high temperatures will be much lower than Saturday, as the mercury will settle around 20 degrees in the area.

Monday will be even worse, as the sun will come out only as decoration for a cold afternoon in the Windy City. High temperatures are expected to barely rise above 10 degrees, a full 30 degrees below normal for the beginning of March.

Temperatures will slowly rise as the week moves along, but will remain significantly below normal until next weekend.
