A 2-year-old boy was killed Thursday night after falling from a window on Chicago’s West Side, authorities said.

The boy was in critical condition after the fall in the 1500 block of South St. Louis Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood about 8:20 p.m., the Chicago Fire Department said. He was later pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital.

Fire officials said it was unclear what the circumstances were that lead up to the fall. Chicago police said they were still awaiting information as units responded to the scene.

No other information was immediately available.
