Multiple people were shot on the Southwest Side of Chicago early Sunday morning, according to police.

Officials said two incidents occurred within four hours apart from each other at the same block of 1300 West Hastings St.

The first incident took place at 1:33 a.m. where two people were shot and one of them, a 27-year-old man was ultimately pronounced dead, police confirmed. The second shooting took place at 6:02 a.m. and six individuals were shot, two of which were pronounced dead.

Neighbors said a rather large gathering had taken place prior to the shootings.

The Chicago Fire Department said two individuals from the second incident were taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital and another person refused treatment at the scene.

CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi tweeted a little after 9 a.m. Sunday stating, “Detectives are questioning people of interest after 6 people were shot in the early morning hours in the 1300 block of W Hastings. Multiple weapons have been recovered.”

No other information was immediately known.
