Authorities said they were investigating a “suspicious package” at a Wheaton church Monday evening.
According to a City of Wheaton tweet, St. Joseph’s Church located at 412 Crescent St. was being investigated and the street was temporarily closed at the Washington and Sumner intersection.
Wheaton Police are investigating a suspicious package at St. Joseph’s Church at 412 Crescent St. Crescent is closed at Washington & Sumner and police are evacuating nearby homes as a precaution. Bomb squad has been called in to determine what is in the package.

Police said they were evacuating nearby homes as a precaution and a bomb squad was called in to determine what the package contained.
“In the next few minutes, the DuPage County Bomb Squad will be rendering the device safe,” the account tweeted at 8:58 p.m. Monday. “You may hear a blast which will sound like a shot-gun going off.”
