A heavy police presence was reported and residents were being urged to avoid the area near a state park in Channahon Monday afternoon as authorities responded to a call of shots fired.

The Channahon Police Department said multiple agencies were at the scene just after 1:15 p.m. near the 25000 block of Fryer Street in the suburb southwest of Chicago, just blocks from the Channahon State Park.

Residents were being told to avoid the area for the next three hours, police said.

Circumstances surrounding the shooting weren’t immediately clear, but authorities said there was “no ongoing threat to the public related to this incident.”
