Carpentersville officials are investigating a possible shooting that ensued, involving police officers Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities said the incident occurred in the area of Berkshire Circle and Wakefield Drive around 4:35 p.m. Tuesday.

According to Police Chief Michael Kilbourne, two Carpentersville officers encountered a man brandishing a firearm.

“Evidence at the scene indicated that the offender fired at the officers,” read a press release, and one of the two officers fired back, striking the suspect and later taking him into custody.

Police said the suspect was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment and is set to remain hospitalized overnight.

The officers involved were also taken to local hospitals to be treated for minor injuries and were later released.

Officials said gunfire struck several parked vehicles and a single family residence though no other victims seemed to have been affected.
