An on-duty Chicago officer was injured on the city’s’ Southwest Side after the windshield of the squad car was shattered after being hit by rocks Tuesday night.

According to officials, the incident took place near the 2500 block of W. Cermak Road and S. Western Ave. intersection around 8:38 p.m. in the Little Village neighborhood.

Authorities later released a statement saying “the windshield was struck by rocks thrown from an overpass” by three juvenile men.

The CPD sergeant sustained a minor laceration to her arm and was transported to an area hospital in good condition, police said.

The three suspects were taken into the 10th District for further investigation, officials said.

No other details were immediately known.
