The Chicago area could be in for another round of thunderstorms on Sunday morning as warm and humid air remains parked over the area.

The overnight hours should be mostly quiet, but scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible as the sun comes up, according to forecast models.

As the morning progresses, the chances of showers and potentially strong thunderstorms will increase, with some storms packing heavy rains, small hail, and gusty winds.

Some of the storms could even be severe, as most of the area is classified as having a “marginal” risk for severe weather Sunday morning. Far western suburbs, including DeKalb, Joliet, and Ottawa, are in the “slight” risk range.

After those storms pass through the area, warm temperatures and humid conditions will remain in place for the remainder of Sunday, but it’s expected to remain dry for the afternoon and evening hours.

Monday is shaping up to be a gorgeous day, with temperatures in the low-80s and sunny skies throughout the area. Temperatures are expected to climb back into the high-80s on Tuesday, with the chance of rain and thunderstorms re-entering the forecast as the work week wears on.
