A 29-year-old woman has been identified after she was hit and killed by a semi while crossing a street in downtown Chicago Tuesday, authorities said.

Elizabeth Boshardy, 29, of Chicago, was struck near the intersection of LaSalle and Grand in Chicago Tuesday morning, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said Tuesday afternoon.

Sources told NBC 5 Boshardy was pregnant, but information on her unborn child was not immediately released by authorities.

According to police and fire officials, the 29-year-old woman was crossing the street just before noon at 100 N. LaSalle when she was hit by the vehicle in the city’s River North neighborhood.

Officers responded to the scene and discovered the woman trapped under the vehicle. She was taken in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to fire officials. She was pronounced dead at the hospital soon after she arrived, according to police.

Authorities later said that a citation for failure to yield to a pedestrian in the crosswalk was issued to the driver.

The Chicago Police Major Accidents Unit was investigating the crash, according to officials.
