Federal immigration officials detained five individuals at a pizza place on Chicago’s East Side, Mayor Lori Lightfoot confirmed Monday via Twitter.

According to Lightfoot, the Mayor’s Office confirmed that the incident occurred earlier in the day at Route 66 Pizza located at 10180 S Indianapolis Ave.

Alderwoman Susan Garza of the 10th Ward said “some workers were taken,” on her Facebook page.

“We are actively monitoring the situation and engaging with community partners for more information on this incident, and to provide assistance to the affected families,” she stated on Twitter.

Lightfoot also tweeted out a “Know Your Rights” document stating five main steps to take if caught in the situation.

“Chicago is and always will be a welcoming city, and we stand firmly with our immigrant residents,” she stated.

ICE released a statement Monday evening stating, “for operational security and for privacy reasons, ICE cannot disclose the details of this targeted enforcement. I would like to remind your viewers that ICE does not conduct raids or sweeps…Nothing could be further from the truth. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement focuses its limited resources first and foremost by targeting those who pose the greatest threat to public safety and border security, and our officers make arrests every single day.”
